Powered equipment uses wiring to provide crucial data, power, and control. Inside the equipment, the wiring passes over sharp edges, which, without protection, can cause abrasion, creating data loss, system failure, or even fire.

Obviously, fire is dangerous, but it can and does happen, so it makes sense for most components to be fire/flame resistant.

OEMs use grommet edging to protect wiring.  We conducted a flame test to illustrate the benefit of Spring-Fast SL grommet edging versus the old method, a nylon grommet edging strip.  We applied direct flame to both.

After direct impact with the flame, Spring-Fast SL is intact and in place -protecting wires, and it self-extinguishes.
Nylon, on the other hand, melts and essentially disintegrates.

Which kind of performance and protection do you want from key components?

Beyond flame resistance, SL has several other key benefits that help OEMs.

SL is easy to work with and excellent for tight access locations because it is simply pushed onto the edge with finger pressure, and it locks in place on flanged or unflanged edges without adhesive.

This can speed up initial construction and is far easier to install if you happen to be working around existing wiring.

This minimizes the process time from several minutes to a few seconds, which boosts task productivity by a factor of 9.5X.

Moreover, it can be easily removed and replaced without loss of edge retention. In combination, these benefits lead to an install cost reduction of at least 49% compared to nylon grommets and adhesive.
