EN 45545-2 Compliant DTi Spring-Fast SL-FST Making an Impact in Europe

Hamburg, Germany 04 June 2020 – DTi device technologies GmbH (DTi GmbH), a subsidiary of Device Technologies, Inc. (DTi) launched Spring-Fast SL-FST Transit and Rail Series in mid-2019.

Twelve months on and the EN 45545-2 compliant material has made an impressive impact.  More and more OEM design engineers have added it to their ebooks or internal design guides for wire protection so it can be used on a wide range of transit/rail applications.   As a result, it is working its way into more and more rail/transit projects across Europe in places as diverse as the UK and the Czech Republic.

EN 45545-2 Compliant SL-FST was a much-requested addition to DTi’s successful Spring-Fast Grommet Edging range. It provides best-in-class protection against abrasion, saves on installation costs, and is also often used as high-performance edge trim.

All rail vehicle materials must comply with the EN 45545-2 standard which affects all rail manufacturers of high-speed, regional or commercial transport trains. The goal is to achieve the highest possible level of fire safety.

Meike Kurzak, Managing Partner and Sales Director of DTi GmbH commented, “We knew few options had been available for wire protection and trim that met EN 45545-2 in Europe so we were expecting it to do well but it has performed far above our expectations.”

The SL-FST series is the fastest, safest, and most reliable way to protect wires, cables, and tubing from abrasion. It can save 49% of the installation costs of grommets and glue because it locks on with finger pressure in seconds – eliminating process time, adhesives, solvents, ancillary installation materials, and volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) – all drawbacks of traditional nylon grommets.

SL-FST has a stainless steel core that is fully encapsulated in a flexible thermoplastic compound that is non-halogen, flame retardant and offers low smoke, toxicity and minimizes corrosion.

Benefits:
  • 49% Cost savings (installs for half the cost of plastic strips with adhesive)
  • 9.5x Productivity increase
  • Best in class performance
  • Improved safety – no toxic adhesives/solvents
Features:
  • Edge retention tested to high vibration standards
  • Eliminates installation adhesives and cleaning solutions while improving productivity
  • RoHS and DFAR compliant
  • Multi-axis flexibility for flanged holes, inside and outside corners
  • Indoor and outdoor use
  • Continuous edge protection for wires and a durable appealing edge trim
  • Excellent resistance to abrasion, water absorption, and low and high temperatures
  • Improves ergonomics during assembly

SL-FST is currently deployed in other high-performance applications such as commercial and military aircraft interiors, avionics, medical, IT, power/energy equipment, and military vehicles.
