DTi’s Spring-Fast® wire protection system will equip the new production of the Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft

This is the latest defense application for Spring-Fast and will be announced at the AIRTEC International Aerospace Supply Fair in Frankfurt, Germany – AIRTECH  Device Technologies is participating as an exhibitor @ Stand #A61

Tranche 2 of the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft will be equipped with the patented Spring-Fast wire protection system to protect it against potentially dangerous wire and cable wear.

The Tranche 2 Typhoons will have Spring-Fast® installed around structural openings, which will cushion the contact between electrical wiring and the airframe.

Spring-Fast replaces the older nylon grommets that need an adhesive to stay in place and tend to crack and fall off, leaving wires exposed to sharp-edged metal surfaces.

Spring-Fast grommet edging snaps on and is significantly easier to install than nylon.  Performance tests to high levels of vibration and shock confirm its long-term reliability under stress. It's a simple finger pressure application that eliminates the need for adhesives.  It minimizes the exposure of techs to hazardous materials and VOCs.  Given grommets are used in many places on aircraft, it reduces production time and costs per aircraft.

“Spring-Fast is perfect for high-performance aircraft such as the Typhoon, which need significant protection from flight stresses,” said DTi's President Nicolas Petri.

Spring-Fast grommets are made from spring steel, encapsulated in a protective polymer coating. Spring-Fast quickly snaps into place, using only finger pressure. The product is delivered in reels and is cut to length on site.

Spring-Fast was originally developed for the electronics industry, specifically servers, network switching, and router systems.  But given its performance, it is now used widely – medical scanning, X-ray and dialysis systems, automatic teller machines, and other critical equipment.

It is becoming the standard for the aerospace industry because of its excellent performance, ease of installation, and cost-effectiveness compared to nylon grommets. Spring-Fast is approved for use by the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and Civil Aviation Authority.

Other military aviation applications for Spring-Fast include.
Boeing’s C-17 airlifter.
CH-47 Chinook helicopter
Northrop Grumman E-2C Hawkeye tactical airborne warning and control system;
Sikorsky’s CH-53 Super Stallion helicopter.
Agusta A109 Power helicopter.

Uses of Spring-Fast in civil aircraft are almost too numerous to mention.  Some examples. Eclipse Aviation’s Eclipse 500 Very Light Jet and the Mooney Bravo DX piston-powered aircraft.
