Use Case:         Cable Management for Next-Gen Cloud Storage & Tape Backup
Client:                A major provider of Cloud Storage
Solution:            Fast-Drop® Bend Radius Control Module Part #321-2A-HL

Problem:

  • The client was building a high density storage & integrated management system to handle the growth in tape to cloud migration for data retention & protection- critical for data mining/big data in areas such as ecommerce, media/entertainment, Internet of Things (IoT), as well as archiving and backup.
  • Set up: a bottom “XY” box held five 8 TB tape drives with 50 installation bays for tape & fiber switching units.
  • Optical fiber was preferred for data transmission speed plus it is thinner, stronger & lighter than copper.
  • The fiber switching unit cables had to be protected from macro-bends by providing a safe bend radius.
  • Wiring had to be routed safely both up and down
  • The solution had to optimize future access and management
  • Materials needed to be compliant with fire safety standards.

Solution:

  • Four Fast-Drop fiber bend radius control modules (RCMs) Part #321-2A-HL were used.
  • The 4 RCMs provided safe bend radii for the fiber routed from the 2 new fiber switch units
  • The set up created 2 rack mountable brackets that could route fiber up or down
  • The brackets are 3U wide and will house 1U size fiber switches.
  • The material is UL94 V-0 compliant.

SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS:

  • Ensured data flow by preventing kinks and macro-bends.
  • Increased productivity by allowing for rapid modifications of existing racks
  • Improved efficiency by keeping cables easily accessible
  • Easily install with a patented attached clip (or with screws or rivets).

FEATURES:

  • Can be used singly as a corner block
  • Can be used together to create a fiber spool for control/containment of excess fiber.
  • Preconfigured arrays are also available.
  • Horizontal or Vertical Mounting
  • Integrated clip preferred by most gives fast and easy installation without adhesives or additional parts
  • Impact Resistant to Shock and Vibration
  • NEBS/BICSI Compliant
  • Flame Retardant – UL94 V-0
  • RoHS Compliant
  • Hook & loop optional straps
  • Available from stock
